There are a lot of diseases that are hard to cope with but I think one of the hardest would have to be Alzheimer’s disease. I know it doesn’t sound like anything life threatening but I think that is one of the hardest things for a family to have to go through. My grandma had Alzheimer’s but it wasn’t as bad as it can get. Can you imagine living a fulfilled life to slowly forget it all? That breaks my heart seriously. I guess when I think of the disease I think of The Notebook and I’d feel heartbroken if I loved someone for fifty or sixty years, had the ultimate romance with and them to suddenly forget it all like I was a complete stranger. I don’t know if I could handle it. I know that The Notebook is just a movie but the storyline does happen since my grandfather has Alzheimer’s and it’s getting worse. I am not really close to my grandfather but he can still remember who we are but anything as far as memories go, he can’t remember and sometimes when he sees us he has to go down the line. I feel bad because I wonder what’s going on in his mind. I often wonder if my grandfather’s brain is like a puzzle and with the Alzheimer’s if it suddenly starts taking puzzle pieces away and he’s left with big hole in the big pictures only to have the holes grow and grow until nothing is left. It’s a hard way to go.
That is why I completely support the Alzheimer’s Walk and believe it is a very charitable cause which is organized by the Alzheimer’s Association. The Alzheimer’s Walk has earned over $225 million in the fight against Alzheimer’s and there is a walk in almost every place. Like for instance, there is 2 walks scheduled within 30 miles of my hometown. If I had a good knee I’d be walking my booty off but hopefully I’ll be in better shape and have my knee better conditioned for next year’s walk. Right now, you can sign up early to be a team captain, team walker, or independent walker. I know that walking isn’t for everyone and not everyone is in good enough shape to do so but that’s okay, there are always donations that can be made! Everyone needs to pitch in and support the fight against Alzheimer’s!
